Age Groups

Our swimmers are divided by age, so that they will be competing against other swimmers of the same age and sex:

  • 6 & Under Girls
  • 6 & Under Boys
  • 7-8 Girls
  • 7-8 Boys
  • 9-10 Girls
  • 9-10 Boys
  • 11-12 Girls
  • 11-12 Boys
  • 13-14 Girls
  • 13-14 Boys
  • 15-18 Girls
  • 15-18 Boys

The cut-off date for age groups is June 15, so if a child is 11y/o on June 16th, he/she will be swimming in the 9-10 age group for this season, etc.

Swimmers must be able to swim 1 lap, unassisted, without stopping, and have the basic swimming skills that allow them to participate in workouts and age-group events.  Swimmers who are having difficulty participating in their age-group workout may be asked to take swim lessons in addition to, or instead of, swim team.  While the Stingrays are a recreational, learning focused swim team, some swimmers may be referred to lessons for their own safety and athletic development.

Team Suits

It is strongly suggested that swimmers purchase a team suit to be used for meets. We like to look like a team. Our team suit is new this year: "Eternal Flame" by TYR, in blue. These may be purchased locally or here on our site. If you would like to buy team suits through our team store here online, please click on 'team store' at the very top of this page, and then select the yellow 'Team Suits' option, and pick your size and style. The store looks fairly empty now, but the suits are being restocked, and we will have the smaller 'racer' style for boys as well as the jammers available soon.

If you have already purchased a team suit, and would like to have our team name embroidered on it, or personalized with your swimmer's name, please bring it to registration and give it to Gail Lomba, who will be handling this. Cost for the embroidery is $6 for team name and $4 for swimmer's name. She will also be at the pool to collect suits on April 19, 21 and 28, or you may call her at 606-7822.

It is also strongly recommended that swimmers do not wear their team suits to practice, so that they do not get worn out and faded. Our team store here on the site offers very inexpensive 'grab bag' suits that can be purchased for practice.

A Little Stingray History

Founded in 1960, the Stingray Swim Team began competing in the Sacramento Placer County Swim League.  The Stingrays switched over to the Valley Foothill Competitive Aquatic League (VFCAL) in 1965.  The Stingrays enjoyed their years with the VFCAL and were crowned League Champions in 1977, 1980 and 1981.  In 1993 they began competing in a newly formed league, Northern California Swim League (NCSL).  This league is a compilation of teams from four area swim leagues that were looking for better parity in competition between teams.  The NCSL grew to three conferences by 1994 and by 1999 added a fourth conference.  Each year the conferences are evaluated and teams are shifted as necessary. The Stingrays were crowned Conference Champions of Mother Lode in 1994, swam for several years in the Gold Rush conference, and were shifted once again to the Mother Lode conference in 1999.  In 2001, F.E.C. took 1st in dual meets and championships. In 2002 F.E.C. was shifted up into the Eureka conference, where they won the Championships in 2002 & 2003. In 2006 and 2007, the Stingrays took 2nd at Championships after going undefeated in dual meets in the Eureka conference.  In 2008, after the addition of a fifth conference to the NCSL, the Stingrays were moved into the Gold Rush conference.  In 2009, the Stingrays back in the Eureka conference took 1st in dual meets and 3rd at Championships.
